Dear Friends,
The Tuscarawas County Senior Center has been gaining more momentum these last 6-8
months with an increase in membership, more daily lunch visitors to both our congregate meal and our café, and we are seeing more participation in our weekly presentations. This is exciting to us as we see more new faces daily enjoying our programs and services. We are here for YOU, our 50 North population. If you haven’t checked us out yet, what are you
waiting for?
2023 will bring us some EXCITING changes in our calendar of events and in our facility.
After lengthy conversations, the Board of Directors have approved moving forward with renovations to the current café. We have received partial funding from Area Agency on Aging, Inc., VFW #1445, and the Kimble Family Foundation to support a full renovation including a name change. We have additional funding requests pending to support the final phases of this renovation however, no levy funds will be utilized to support this project. The café’s last day of operation will be March 30.
We are tentatively planning our grand opening in May, 2023 of PROSPECT PERKS, COFFEE & CAFÉ. We will be continuing our daily café specials but with a new menu as well as a coffee shop that you can get coffee to go, enjoy a cup of java with your friends or a fancy latte while you enjoy a book from our Library. Additionally, we will offer Grab & Go salads, sandwiches, veggie plates as well as homemade desserts daily. Hours of operation are still being determined.
MARK YOUR CALENDARS!!!! SUMMER PATIO PARTIES are coming to the center. These parties are OPEN TO THE PUBLIC on Friday June 9, July 14 and August 18, from 4:30p-9pm. Come and enjoy live music on the patio with a special menu, appetizers and cash bar. Cornhole will be available for those to enjoy. In case of inclement weather, the party will be taken inside the center. Mark your calendar now and Come and unwind with us on Friday night. Check our Facebook page for the musical lineup, special menu, and featured drinks.
MARK YOUR CALENDARS!!! Monday, October 23, we will be hosting our first signature event, Forks Corks & Comedy. This event will help us raise money to support programs and services at the Tuscarawas County Senior Center in ways that our levy funds cannot or to help stretch our levy dollars to do more for our seniors. Forks Corks & Comedy will feature 5 celebrity chefs from our community who, together, will prepare a delicious 5-course meal with wine pairings. The after-dinner entertainment will be our featured comedians performing a 30 minute show each. Tickets are $75 per person and there will be limited availability. Sponsorships will be available for those individuals and businesses that would like to provide additional monetary support for our event. Please contact Vicki Yates or Jamie Smith for more information. Check our Facebook page for celebrity chefs participating and the featured comedians.
Finally, I want to welcome Heather Blacka, Mineral City Senior Center Manager who began her role on Monday February 20. She will be working to increase membership within the Mineral City center and increasing activities and programs for those served at that site.
Have a wonderful spring!
Jamie
